MARK SET BOT:
MarkSetBot is a Michigan-based company that creates robotic buoys that use a trolling motor to stay in place and are controlled via a phone or tablet. The anchorless marks allow the entire race course to be moved quickly and accurately. An integrated wind instrument also provides instantaneous wind data. The use of MarkSetBots has allowed the GL52 fleet to streamline race committee personnel while also making it easier to set up and adjust courses in the deep water of the Great Lakes.
VAKAROS:
In conjunction with MarkSetBot, the GL52 Fleet most recently added Vakaros RaceSense to their on-the-water technology toolbox. By equipping each end of the line, as well as each competitor with a Vakaros Atlas 2, RaceSense is able to call the start within 50cm accuracy. Competitors are notified milliseconds after the start if they’re over or not, so it’s easier than ever to restart and get racing. Best of all, each unit is synchronized to GPS time, down to the millisecond, avoiding any timing errors.
TRAC TRAC:
The final on-the-water technology solution is TracTrac. Small trackers are placed on each boat and record data from each race throughout the day. This information can then be uploaded to SailNjord and used in fleet debriefs. TracTrac also allows for viewers at home to join in on the action. They can follow along with each race using their live viewing tool. Even after racing is finished, anyone can go back and rewatch past races and events.
