2025 GL52 RACING HIGHLIGHT REEL
FROM PENSACOLA TO THE GREAT LAKES; 2025 WAS AN EPIC YEAR FOR GL52 RACING
HOLLAND, MI (January 5, 2026) – It’s a wrap and a Mic Drop! Racing GL52s in 2025 was a home run. After two events in their new winter home of Pensacola, FL (Pensacola Cup & Southern Showdown), the GL52s migrated north for seven events in the Great Lakes that included four bespoke inshore events in Holland, MI (Big Red Regatta & Macatawa Challenge) and Harbor Springs, MI (Ugotta Regatta & Little Traverse Cup). These bookended three of the most prestigious fresh water offshore events in the world (Queen’s Cup, Bayview to Mackinaw & Chicago to Mackinaw Races). This highlight reel features all nine of the 2025 GL52 events, their teams, racing, community partners and owners. GL52 racing is the best big boat competition in the US. Let’s get ready to do it again in 2026!
In their new winter home in Pensacola, Florida the GL52 fleet competed in the first first world-class racing event staged at the high-performance sailing center established by American Magic at the Port of Pensacola. Victor Wild’s FOX team won both the GL52 Pensacola Cup the GL52 Southern Showdown to become the 2025 GL52 Southern Series Champions.
John Huhn’s KATANA team claimed the top spot at the Macatawa Challenge and in doing so, clinched the 2025 GL52 Great Lakes Series Championship. Throughout the tightly-contested seven-event Series, Huhn’s KATANA team racked-up three wins (Big Red Regatta, Ugotta Regatta and Macatawa Challenge) and placed second at three others. The sum of these accounted for his team’s low-point season score (13) which earned them the top spot on the leaderboard for the second consecutive year.
Bob and Laura Hughes’ HEARTBREAKER excelled in the off-shore events of the 2025 GL52 Great Lakes Series winning both the Chicago-Mac and Bayview-Mac Races.

2026 SEASON PREVIEW
2026 SOUTHERN SERIES: PENSACOLA, FLORIDA
From March 19-22 and April 9-12, the GL-52 Fleet will return to Pensacola, Florida for the second annual GL52 Southern Series 2026. Last winter six GL52 teams were welcomed by the City of Pensacola where they enjoyed stellar sailing conditions along with southern hospitality. This year, series events will include the GL52 Pensacola Cup 2026 (March 19-22) and the GL52 Southern Showdown 2026 (April 9-12)

2026 SUMMER SERIES: GREAT LAKES
Next summer the fleet will consolidate back on the Great Lakes where twelve or more GL52 will race at the following perennial favorite events:
- June 5-7: BIG RED REGATTA
- June 26: QUEEN’S CUP
- July 11: CHICAGO RACE TO MACKINAC
- July 18: BAYVIEW-MACKINAC
- July 23-26: UGOTTA REGATTA
- August 7-9: LITTLE TRAVERSE CUP
- September 11-13: MACATAWA CHALLENGE

ABOUT US:
The GL52 North American Series 2026 encompasses both the GL52 Southern Series 2026 (2 events) and the GL52 Great Lakes Series 2026 (7 events).
The GL52 Southern Series, is intended to encourage like-minded TP52 type boat owners, with a healthy mix of amateur and pro sailor crews, to compete in similarly configured boats under the ORC on a Time-on-Time basis in a group of buoy races that form a Winter series in Pensacola, Florida.
The GL52 Great Lakes Series intended to encourage like-minded TP52 type boat owners, with a healthy mix of amateur and pro sailor crews to compete in similarity configured boats under the ORC. This Great Lakes Series consists of 3 iconic long-distance races and 4 buoy racing events.
